2017-fb-cover-merged-better-together

As we ring in 2017, a new era begins at the Women’s Resource Center as the merger of the Manatee and Sarasota centers becomes official.  The Boards and staffs of both organizations spent over 1,400 hours of discussion and due diligence on the merger. We appreciate everyone who played a role in this significant undertaking, with special thanks to our consultants from The Patterson Foundation, Betsy Steiner and Pam Truitt. Betsy and Pam provided an amazing environment for us to learn, share, connect, evolve and strengthen the organization.

While we are excited about the completion of the merger, the reality is the work is just beginning!

Staffing Changes

There are a couple of staff transitions we wanted to share with you. Amanda Horne, who has worked with us part time for the last 10 years as community relations guru, is leaving that position. While she will stay involved with the WRC, it became apparent as we started cross promoting programming and events during the merger that we needed a full time person for this position.

With Amanda transitioning out of her staff role we welcome two additions to our WRC team! Nancy Wollin Cook will be joining us as Director of Marketing & Communications and Kaylea Schule will be joining us as Events & Communications Coordinator.

New Branding Project

Nancy will be leading the charge as we embark on the challenging task of creating a unified brand. This will include a new website, logo, social media presence, and messaging. I would ask for your patience as we work through this process. These items are so important to how we communicate our mission to the community and we want to be thoughtful and inclusive as we make these changes. Currently both websites are still active we will be using a temporary logo during this transition that is simply:

wrc-solologo

Programming Evaluation

Our programs are the foundation of our organization. Christie Nolan, a consultant partially funded through a grant from the I3, Invest in Incredible program of the Gulfcoast Community Foundation, will be working with our program staff, including facilitators and volunteers, to evaluate our current programming. The goal is to leverage the best of our programming throughout the region.

We will continue to keep you posted though emails, Facebook posts and Coffee and Conversations. Should you have any questions about the WRC please do not hesitate to contact me via email abrown@thewomensresourcecenter.org or via phone 941-747-6797.

Wishing you and yours a New Year filled with good health, the joy of family and friends, and laughter!

WRC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Women’s Resource Center invites women who are at least 21 years old and full-time residents of Sarasota County to submit an application for the WRC Sarasota scholarship. The WRC scholarship was created to recognize, reward, and encourage female students who are pursuing a higher level of education to reach a realistic goal in preparation for employment, self-sufficiency and advancement in the community.

The deadline for submitting a completed scholarship application is Friday, March 17, 2017. The WRC Scholarship Committee will meet to review all applications, face-to-face interviews will be scheduled, and notices will be mailed to all applicants after decisions have been made. An awards ceremony and reception will be held in the spring to honor those selected for a scholarship.

In keeping with their mission to create personal, social and professional growth opportunities for women and provide the strategies for living that strengthen them, their families and their communities, the WRC Scholarship Program has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in educational scholarships since the inception of the program.  For more information about our scholarship program, or to find out how to become a scholarship donor, Eva Rickert at our Manatee office (941) 747-6797.
